Fall Crew opened its season at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford. The team posted top five finishes in each of the six events they entered. The Varsity Eight was split into two fours; unfortunately the “A” four suffered equipment breakage in the middle of their race (footplate snapped in half) and fell to 5th place after a great first half of the race. The “B” four won their division by a large margin (NMH and Choate were the other medalists). Brunswick JV eights took impressive 3rd and 5th places out of the 29 JV Eights. The Novice Eight took 2nd of 17 crews in their racing debut. The Varsity guys also jumped in an eight with no practice and took 4th of 21 Varsity Eights.
The squad had another strong performance at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in Shelton. The Novice Eight took home another medal, taking bronze in a field of 20 crews. In the 2nd Varsity Eight category, Brunswick earned silver medals in a field of 18, just 2.75 seconds back of a strong crew from Manhasset. Saturday’s SATs forced Brunswick’s senior-filled line-ups to be drastically altered. The 2nd Varsity Four did well to take 5th in a new, younger line-up, while the 1st Varsity Four took bronze out of 16 (with two seniors making the race after the SAT, and one unfortunately not making the 3pm start time).
