Brunswick Crew showed more fast times and strong placings this weekend at the Kent Invitational, an annual regatta among six Connecticut schools.
The race schedule was sped up due to the weather, yet no lightning ever ended up being in the area of the Lake Waramaug course.
The Brunswick Varsity Eight couldn’t match Kent’s speed today. In fast, yet tricky conditions, Kent covered the 1500m course in 4:22.8 ahead of the Bruins’ 4:25.1 with Salisbury going 4:33.5 to take 3rd. Brunswick and Kent remained in contact the entire race, but Kent won the boat race in the middle.
The Second Eight margins today were very slim — the top three crews all were within one length. Brunswick took 3rd, to strong crews from Kent and Salisbury.
For the second year in a row, Brunswick won the both the Third and Fourth Eights events, with both boats controlling their races from start to finish. The Third Eight will enter the New England Championships undefeated at 11-0. The Fourth and Fifth Eights will finish their regular seasons on Wednesday on their home waters versus the Greenwich Water Club. The Varsity Eight and a Junior Four will travel to the Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia, PA next weekend, and then the top three eights will finish the season in Worcester, MA on May 25th.
