Directions to the Head of the Connecticut Regatta in Middletown, CT: (October 16th, 2011)
There are several updates to the driving directions for crews and spectators coming to the 2011 Head of the Connecticut Regatta. Emergency repairs have forced DOT to close Exit 14 from Rt. 9 South – this is the exit normally used to reach the regatta site from the highway.
There are several convenient alternative routes to which may be used. All trucks, trailers, and buses must use Exit 13. Please see details after expanding the article below.
On the map below, the red path indicates Exit 14, historically used to arrive at the Regatta. We suggest that all trailers and buses use the route highlighted in green. To follow this suggested route, proceed to Exit 13, and follow straight to the end of the exit. Take a right turn on South Main street, and proceed straight onto Union Street. Follow Union Street to arrive at the Regatta venue.
View 2011 HCTR Detour in a larger map
Cars may turn right or left at the intersection of Union and DeKoven Drive (following the blue lines) for convenient parking options, all within easy walking distance of Harbor Park.
Cars with competitors and spectators are encouraged to use Exit 16 or Exit 15 from Rt. 9 South. Those arriving via Exit 16 (Main St) should turn right on the exit ramp, followed by a left onto Main Street, and the first left onto Rappallo Ave. Follow Rappallo Ave around the curve to the right where it becomes DeKoven Drive. Parking lots will be located immediately before City Hall (this is the Mellili Plaza parking lot) and behind the courthouse on Court St.
Those arriving via Exit 15 (Washington Street) should turn immediate left onto DeKoven drive after exiting Rt. 9. Spectators, including families of competitors, are encouraged to use the parking provided on Court St and access the Regatta venue via the pedestrian tunnel under Rt. 9 to Harbor Park.

SEE THE LINK BELOW (DETOUR FOR 2011 REGATTA):
http://portal.gunnery.org/netcommunity/page.aspx?pid=281
This drive should take around an hour and a half.
Be advised there is basically no cell phone service at the regatta site, but it is the best place to watch a race (although Worcester is pretty good, too).
Directions to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA:
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike East (from I-84). Get off at Interstate Route 290 East (Worcester). Get off at Exit 21 (Plantation St.). Turn right at the end of the ramp. Turn left onto North Road (between the Mercandante Funeral Home and UMass Medical Center). Proceed to Lake Ave and turn right. The park entrance is one hundred yards on the left.
If you are looking for some easy, free parking…Coach Martin recommends using the White City (shopping mall) parking lot at the end of the race course. This is just on the opposite side of the Route 9 bridge from the finish line. You would then cross Route 9, and walk down towards the regatta entrance (which will be on your right as you are walking down). The bridge is actually not a bad spot from which to watch a race or two. It is only a few meters after the finish line.
